A Different Way to Learn

Learning occurs when you stop memorizing facts and start building confidence through curiosity, observation, and lived experience.

Below are the different ways we can learn together.

Language Lessons

I offer private language lessons for students of all ages (I even have students in their 70s!) who want to approach Italian (or English) with curiosity and confidence rather than pressure for perfection. Our work together focuses on conversation, interpretation, and cultural understanding. Instead of memorizing rules, students learn to engage with language as a living experience.

Lessons often include:

  • conversational practice and guided discussion

  • cultural context and everyday language use

  • reading and interpreting short texts

  • strategies for building confidence and independent learning

These lessons are designed for learners who want to experience life in the target language, not simply translate it.

Learning Guides and
Didactic Materials

One of my most popular products, I create educational materials for language learners and those reconnecting with Italian heritage. These guides are designed for independent exploration and help learners engage with language and culture (and tourism!) through practical examples, observation, and reflection.

Topics include:

  • understanding Italian menus and food culture

  • children’s guides to visiting Italy

  • reconnecting with Italian heritage through everyday habits

These materials provide structured support while encouraging learners to form their own understanding step by step.

Thank you so much for this! It was super informative (for the kids and myself haha), and I will definitely be using a lot of this for conversation starters at meals or while we eat cicchettis!!”

Workshops and Story-based Learning

Reading and storytelling remain powerful tools for learning. I offer workshops in bookstores, cultural spaces, and community settings that explore language learning by exploring stories, helping children and adults develop language, curiosity, and confidence.

Workshops focus on:

  • reading as a tool for language development

  • storytelling as a way to build comprehension, imagination, and memory

  • discussion and reflection through literature

These events encourage participants to approach learning through stories rather than instruction.

Coming Soon: Yoto Story Series

If you’ve been paying attention as you browse this website, you no doubt have picked up on the fact that I am VERY into storytime. One of my favorite ways to expose my bilingual family to both languages and cultures that are part of our lives is to use our yoto, a special radio that offers screenfree music, audiobooks, and podcasts especially for kids. And now the exciting part: I am currently developing a series of audio stories designed for Italian heritage learners using the Yoto platform! These stories introduce language and cultural themes through narrative, allowing children to engage with Italian through listening, imagination, and play.

The series focuses on:

  • language exposure through storytelling

  • cultural themes rooted in everyday life

  • encouraging curiosity about heritage and identity

More information will be shared as the series develops, but please consider signing up to receive emails by filling out a contact form BELOW so you’re sure not to miss anything.

“Sarah is absolutely lovely - informative, fun, happy, generous with her time and yet also interested in her clients and not just the sound of her own voice. It’s clear that the locals we met along the way really like Sarah, too.”
